I'm still deeply upset about the events that happened at Sandy Hook... only a week ago? It seems like a lifetime. Like I mentioned to my teaching friend last night, I'm highly grateful that we have been on Winter Break already and some time will have passed before I have to go back to work.
On to happier news - a few months ago, I applied at Common Sense Media for one of their Expert Educator Reviewer positions and today, lo and behold... I found my acceptance letter in my inbox! Yay! Now, it's been so long that I don't remember all the details, but I'll be reviewing Educational Programs, Apps, etc in 2013. I highly doubt I'll get paid for this, but it seems interesting to do and maybe drive some web traffic over to this little ol' blog of mine.
And, not because I now have a writing gig with them, but because I appreciate their website... I'd head over and check out Common Sense Media. They have great suggestions for student-friendly websites, apps and games. Plus, if you are ever unsure about showing movies for your students, they have a very comprehensive movie guide as well. They also feature ready-made lessons regarding computer and social media topics too! My school district uses their CIPA (Child Internet Protection Act) lessons for our 6th graders. (Which my computer teacher partner and I get to present in 5 intense 6th grade assemblies. Lucky thing I don't mind speaking to 400 students at once?)
Congrats, Lauren/LIMS:
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read more about this--and how fun to be reading reviews from YOU!
I'm heading over to check out the CIPA lessons... thanks for sharing this information.
Happy Holidays... and wishes for a HAPPY New Year too!
