Moving Pictures

Today was my official "last day" of work - just an inservice day where we get to check out, clean out our rooms and all that good stuff.  It's a quick and easy day, most of our staff can get in and out in a hour.

So, I finished moving over to my new computer room today.  All of my stuff is out on the shelves and needs to be sorted, organized, and put away.  This is the countertop towards the back of the room.  My mini fridge and microwave won't stay in that spot, they'll go back in my "workroom."

This is the workroom - it's also the "woodshop" with a jigsaw cutter, hole poker (yeah, the technical term there) and a sander that you can't see.  My Assistant Principal thinks I'm nuts to keep the CO2 car program going with the woodcutting.  I think I'll keep it up until all the wood blocks have been used.  You can see that I have a lot of stuff that needs to be cleaned and put away.

Here are some shots of the computer lab....  And decorating ideas?

I also took a look at the bulletin boards that surround the computers.  I like all the bulletin board space, but look at all those outlets = pain in the butt to work around.  I don't look forward to cutting the bulletin board paper to have to deal with those.  Our school colors are turquoise, black and silver, so I'm thinking about decorating all the boards with that coordinating color scheme.  And, see that lip in the upper left corner?  I'm thinking maybe covering all that in black?  Too dark?  The paint on the walls looks awful and I think I need to cover them.

Finally, this is my desk/teacher area.  I liked the L shape I made with my electronic cart and my small teacher's desk.  The previous teacher had his back to the class (doesn't make any sense, but to each his own) and I had to switch everything around.

I'll be back into work tomorrow to finish things... I hope?!  Anyone else still moving, sorting, etc?

Summer Bucket List!

Ahhhhh....  Summer.  I love you so!  I can go back to my pre-teaching slacker ways of staying up late, sleeping in and lounging about the house.

However, I do have a "Bucket List" of things that I'm going to accomplish over the summer.  Miss Kindergarten is holding a Summer Bucket List Linky Party!

I'll be......  Moving!

I'll be going from my current classroom to the computer elective room.  This will involve a lot of cleaning, packing, setting up.  Lots of opportunities to organize!  This means I'll be making lots of stuff from Pinterest.  Also, with moving, I'll be taking a look at the Computer Curriculum and modifying/changing what I need to.

I'll be.....  Making!

I'm in love with this idea and I'll try to come up with something that will work in the computer room.

I'll be...... Visiting!

I'm signed up for the 2012 ISTE Educational Technology Conference.  I'm SO EXCITED.  I love conferences and this is a four day San Diego conference.  I love visiting San Diego and I love conferences about technology, especially this one I'll get to wander around the conference halls with my iPad and go nuts.  My goal is to bring back some great ideas that I can use in my computer elective class.  I'll also be blogging my days there - so look forward to it!  June 24th through June 28th!

I'm also a season pass holder at Disneyland and as of June 15th, they are FINALLY re-opening all of California Adventure to Guests.  I can't wait to go (and fight through the other millions, but that's okay.  I'm a Disneyland junkie.)

I'll be .....Watching!

I don't talk about it too much since this is my teaching blog, but I'm an diehard LA Kings fan. This is the first year since 1993 that they've made it to the Western Conference Finals and they are dominating. So, I'm planning on watching a lot of Kings Playoff Hockey in June.  WHOO HOO.

Packing & Moving

Over the course of the 2011-2012 school year, I will have packed up and moved my classroom...

wait for it....

Yes.  I'm the packing and moving champion!  (Sadly, there's no award for this.  Maybe increased muscle tone from picking up boxes?)

As this year comes to an end (I only have NINE days left - thank god) I finally received my official assignment from our Administration.  I know I've mentioned this, but a few months ago, I offered to my principal to move from the 7th grade math/science position to the Computer Elective position.  The current elective teacher wanted to switch... and I decided to go for it!

Now, I know I'm moving AGAIN - gotta go to the Computer Elective classroom (which is a GIANT room with a woodshopish area in the back) with all of my things.  I've been busy sorting and deciding what materials I can "pass on" to the teacher moving in and what things will come with me.   Also, it's a key idea to start throwing a lot of stuff away because I really won't need extra math worksheet copies in the computer room.

Over the summer, I'll be busily revamping the current websites and pages for the technology class.  Plain black 12 times new roman font on a white screen does NOT do it for me!  All of these ideas (with pics) will be in more detail for the linky party over at Miss Kindergarten's site.

Also, it means I'll probably change the focus of the blog just a little to more of an educational technology point of view.  I'm still going to work on taking all my older materials and forms, sprucing them up and uploading them for everyone.

Ultimately - it's definitely more "Life in Middle School" because I'll be hitting ALL three grade levels and really seeing ALL types of learners from the Technology Elective.

Teacher Appreciation Week

I'm linking this post up with the amazing Caught in the Middle Blog - it's her first linky party!  (You should participate!  And in mine too! heehee!)

Teacher Appreciation Week is always a mellow affair in our school district.  We get a small thank you token in our box a few mornings during the week, but it's sorta terrible that it's not publicized more!!

Our Principal went out and bought the entire staff (and I mean EVERYONE) a brand new staff work shirt that we wear on Fridays.  It's a really nice present that I really appreciate because it's SO nice not to worry about what I'm going to wear on Friday morning!

How was your teacher appreciation week?!

Open House Linky Party!

It's that time of year again - Open House time!

In my school district - Open House happens about two weeks after state testing.  So, you have to totally tear down/cover up your room, only to have a miraculous turn around into an awesome learning environment in two weeks.  It always makes me a whole lot frazzled because I need to make sure that I have some awesome student work to display.

This year, I thought about it and I had my students create an Animal Project, complete with cube display. Each student had to research one animal with their appearance, habitat, food/heart information, classification levels and much more. They basically became an "expert" on their animal.  I am going to have all their animals on display for my Open House, so parents can see all the animals that were researched for the project.  It's going to be like going to the Zoo - all the animals are going to be grouped by their Animal Classification (Fish, Reptile, Mammal, etc).

I know that every year, I always struggle for some great Open House ideas.  I thought that it would be awesome to see what everyone else out there does for their Open House (or Parent Night?).  So, I set up the Open House Linky Party!  Whoo-hoo!

Open House Linky Party!

1.  Right click and save this picture to add to your linky post!
2.  Write your Open House post!  Pictures and other forms, ideas would be awesome!  If your Open House has already passed, tell us what you did or would do next year.
3.  Come back and Link Up to this post!
4.  Come back often to check out all the great ideas from great Teachers!

Due to lack of interest... I closed this linky!  No worries, I have lots of ideas for another one!

May Currently

Farley over at Oh Boy 4th Grade has posted her May Currently!  These are always so exciting, then I forget to do them.

Regardless of my scatterbrain-ness - I love May!  It's my birthday month (May 4th) and the month I get out of school!  Only 15 work days left and I cannot wait.
